i feel like i’ve been waiting to see this smile for the whole second season.
not just for the brittana of it all, but just to see santana truly happy again. she had a boob job over summer because she felt unnoticed, which caused her to lose her position has head cheerio and any status she had at school. she lost her best friend to artie - twice, and her loneliness and insecurities started becoming more apparent. she reached out to puck, sam and finn for any chance of intimacy and, with hindsight, probably to mask what she was feeling about her sexuality, but none of them wanted her for her. she picked fights and threw insults around because of the anger and bitterness inside her, for attention, because she was jealous of other peoples’ happiness, for any semblance of a reputation she had left. the whole glee club, the people who are meant to love her unconditionally, lashed out and told her that she was a bitch who wouldn’t amount to more than a pole-dancer. she poured her heart out to brittany, the hardest thing she’s ever had to do, and ultimately got rejected. she had two false relationships to hide her sexuality because she was so afraid of what would happen to her, and because she hadn’t accepted it herself. she couldn’t even sing with her friends because she hadn’t come to terms with it, yet she was single-handedly responsible for allowing kurt to come back to mckinley, by helping karofsky, and protected him afterwards (all without a word of thanks, from anyone). she was admirably mature towards the girl she loves being with someone else, unlike most characters and her past self.
season two has shown an incredible amount of growth in santana. while her situations got worse and more upsetting and difficult for her, she got stronger and became a better person. she is almost unrecognisable in character from the girl at the beginning of the season. the difference is, that she’s becoming happier. she’s not all the way there, but she’s learning to embrace emotions that previously made her feel weak and to accept and value herself. it has not been easy and the amount she’s been through, how she has coped with that and her willingness to change shows how deserving she is of love and happiness. and i am so relieved for her that she finally got a moment of bliss. this smile is the culmination of everything she has faced being worth it.
Santana is one of the reasons I will always love Season 2. Bravo Naya, bravo.

I don’t care if I’m the only person who thinks this (and sometimes I feel like I am) but I’m sick and tired of all this “Glee and continuity? What’s that?” I see all the fuckin’ time. Because it’s TOTAL AND UTTER CRAP!
There, I said it. Glee being bad with continuity is bullshit! Yeah, it’s not perfect but they’re ON a hell of a lot more than they’re off. Actually, the ‘off’ moments are pretty rare and tend to involve mostly insignificant elements or aspects that are a part of Glee being a comedy/drama set in a world of absurdity.
RIB do sometimes miss things, usually little things. And sometimes external ‘forces’ influence a course of the storyline not originally intended which can leave some ‘issues’ or bumps or complications in the storyline. But these tend to fall on the execution not always matching the fullness of the original intent or a storyline pushed past its ‘sell by date’, (See: Jesse’s ‘exit’ in S1. Dalton arc S2) and less on actual lack of consistency within the story.
Frankly, if something seems ‘off’ in continuity it’s usually not RIB who are getting it wrong, rather much more often than not it’s the VIEWER who is reading it wrong!
Oh my lord this is just… wow. Glee analysis always restores my faith in it.
Got ma Glee Season 2.1 through the post =D
LOVE the choice of people on the front. Both canon and head canon OTP there ♥
Yakno, with Santana’s little solo/lead verse. She’s not just harmonising the whole way through in the episode. Brittana superfans, tell me things or I shall make one =D
Season One:
Kurt: “You want to beat me up? Go ahead. But I swear to you, I will never change. I’m proud to be different. It’s the best thing about me. So go ahead. Hit me.”
Finn: “I want to thank you, Kurt. I realize I still have a lot to learn, but the reason I’m here right now, in a shower curtain, is because of you. We’re all freaks together, and we shouldn’t have to hide it.”
Season Two:Blaine: “I don’t know how it worked at your old school, but did you notice we all wear uniforms around here? It’s about being part of the team. You’re not going to make it as a Warbler if all you care about is getting noticed.”
Kurt: “You’re right. I’m sorry.”This is why I don’t agree with people who think Kurt’s story is at a good place right now.
At McKinley the pressure to conform came from football players, and the outsiders withstood it together. At Dalton, that pressure comes from everywhere — it’s in the school’s policies, the rules of the Warblers, and every piece of advice Blaine has given Kurt since he transferred. Parallels like the one above are subtle, but very important. The last time we saw Kurt bedazzling, the storyline culminated in Finn sticking up for him and showing solidarity by coming to school in a sequined mask and red vinyl dress. This time the storyline culminates in Blaine shoveling dirt on top of the bedazzled casket (which holds the metaphor for Kurt’s voice) while they stand over it in Dalton ties and matching black coats. He’s literally buried what Kurt once thought was “the best thing about [him]”.
Whatever good qualities Blaine might have, the character represents Dalton, and Dalton is fundamentally oppressive. It doesn’t have bullies, but it also doesn’t have room for self-expression — and the two are closely linked. Would the bullies of McKinley have gone after Kurt if he dressed like everyone else? Would the New Directions get picked on if they only sang pop music, and to be heard you had to make it through several rounds of auditions? Probably not. But what’s the point in knowing yourself if you can’t share it with the world, and what’s the point of singing if you can’t sing about what matters to you, when it matters to you? This is perfect. Nothing to add.
I couldn’t agree with anything more.
Honestly, I think the writers have gotten so caught up in the beauty of Klaine that they’ve completely forgotten that Kurt loved Finn, just like he loves Blaine, and comparison of the two relationships is vital to Kurt’s storyline. While they’re ranting about how amazing Klaine is, all I can think is “I’m sorry, but this is actually the first thing you have all truly failed to write as well as I had expected”. I’m not hating on Klaine at all, I’m just saying that the writers failed to make it as good as it should have been.
